I think we had been in Melbourne about 5 days when me and Jared had a *convo that went something like this:
Me: "So, question?"
Jared "Ya?"
"Not really an easy way to say this, so I am just going to put it out there!"
"Um..ok! You're scaring me a little!"
"If you told your boss your family wanted to move home. Do you think you would get fired?!"
{without any hesitation he replied}
"Probably. Yes!"
"Ok, good to know!"
All I can say is...I am glad I stuck it out past those five days!!
It has been one crazy year!
Thats right!
One year!
(well in two weeks...but whose counting?)
Where has the time gone?
In the last year our Aussie vocab has gotten "heaps" bigger!
Thought I would give you an update on some of our favs!
First things first
Australians or should I say Aussies
shorten anything they can.
Names, cities, shops, basically any word..
they shorten it!
Conversation = Convo
breakfast = brekkie
afternoon - arvo
12 noon = midday
toilet = loo
tomorrow =tomoz
Sheryl = Shezza
football = footy
My friend, Kerri, recently had a baby.
Hence, all these new baby lingo.
crib = cot
binki = dummie
stroller = pram
c-section = caesar
whiny kids = winging (my fav)
naughty kid = ferrall (sp?)
Sports in Australia are huge! Especially Australian Football.
However, do not ask someone who they "root" for.
Because then you might get awkward silence...
Possibly even get cursed at...
Or told to "bugga off!"
Rooting = Sex
Some of my other favorites...
When they don't want to do something...
You get this response...
"I can't be bothered."
or
"Get stuffed!"
They ad "as" to things.
Probably the one I use the most!
Sweet As
Lame As
Cool As
Weird As
After they sing happy birthday to someone.
One person yells out "hip hip"
and everyone follows with HOORAY!
Repeated 3 times!
I am sure their is more lingo but I can't think of anything else right now.
I am so glad that we decided to make it past those five days.
EVEN IF....
for the rest of my life I will have to really really think hard on which side of the car is the drivers side
or which side of the road i should be driving on
we missed out on big family events
sundays are kinda sad and lonely
my kids write the letters k and b differently (look it up)
at Bostons baptism we will be missing ALL of his favorite cousins
but mostly I am so glad I stayed EVEN IF for the rest of my life
I will have an Australian sized hole in my heart when we eventually move home.
I have made some amazing friends.
Truly, some of the best people in the world.
Not to mention the scenery is breathtaking!
Now, when I hear the word ADVENTURE!
I don't cringe!
I smile.
A real big smile!
Because that's what we are on...
our very own
ADVENTURE!
One of my Young Womens drew this for me and I LOVE it! |
p.s. come visit....we only have a year! Or, should I say...you only have a year! ;)

I only kind of love this... Love that you always look for the positive and are enjoying your adventure... I loved Australia and your friends as well:) however, I still don't love that you are all the way across the world from me! Let the countdown begin...!! >_<
So cute . . . . You are so cute. Love you stayed longer than five days for your adventure. So happy it's not five years. You are in the right place at the right time. Will be THEILLED when it's time for you to come home for good :)
